CALL FOR PAPERS
Research Project “Experimentation and Dissidence”

ON PRACTICES OF PHILOSOPHY AS EXPERIMENTATION AND DISSIDENCE
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE – LISBON, FEBRUARY 6, 7 and 8, 2019

NEW DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION

The research project Experimentation and Dissidence, based in the CFUL (Centre for Philosophy at the University of Lisbon), and funded by the National Portuguese Agency for Science and Technology, FCT, focuses on experimental and dissident philosophical practices from the second half of the 18th century up to the present. We have taken the works and thought of Johann Georg Hamann, Søren Kierkegaard, Friedrich Nietzsche and Guy Debord as those who best demonstrate the pertinence and novelty of our research, as well as the ones that best embody the spirit of the project.

The project started with the critique of the Enlightenment (2nd half of the 18th century) in the 1st Workshop (December 2016), followed by the critique of the more institutionalized versions of Idealism (19th century) and of strict intellectualism and nihilism (c. 1860- 1950) in the 2nd Workshop (June 2017). More recent versions of critique and dissidence, from Heidegger to the present day, were the theme of the recently held 3rd Workshop (February 2018). The 4th Workshop, to be held in October 2018, will have two different panels, one on Philosophy and the Arts, and another on Philosophy, Gender and Sexual Difference.

We are now pleased to announce this CALL FOR PAPERS for the International Conference ON PRACTICES OF PHILOSOPHY AS EXPERIMENTATION AND DISSIDENCE, to take place in the Faculty of Letters and Humanities of the University of Lisbon on February 6, 7 and 8, 2019.

Papers should link one or both of these two meta-concepts – experimentation and dissidence – to any theme or thinker from the 2nd half of the 18th century until the present whose work is taken to be directly responsible for specific moments of rupture and novelty in the history of philosophy and philosophical practice. Papers may take place within or across the following sub-themes, but are not limited to them:
